Spark it!

Today on my last long run before the marathon (!!) I passed all these military personnel with giant guns along the Hudson near the Intrepid Museum. When I got home I discovered they were guarding the U.S.S. NY, newly arrived from Virginia for its commissioning into the Navy fleet on Saturday, and built with 7.5 tons of steel from the twin towers into its bow.
Wow. At the time I didn’t know what I was looking at, but I’m glad I got to see it.
On all these long runs I’ve had periods of physical and mental anguish, but I’ve also viewed some spectacular sights. I’ve discovered new corners of riverside parks, promenades and the activities they host, and I’ve seen some beautiful skylines. The Sunday before last, on that gorgeous, sunny day, I watched the later sunset silhouette the Statue of Liberty in radiant orange.
I hope Philly has some pretty things to look at.
